Description
A refreshing, easy-to-make frozen berry slushie that combines frozen berries, red wine, and citrus for a perfect summer cocktail. It looks fancy but requires minimal effort, making it ideal for parties and hot days.
Ingredients
- 3 cups frozen mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries)
- 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Pinot Noir)
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 cup simple syrup (or honey)
- 1/4 cup orange liqueur (Triple sec or Cointreau)
- 1 cup soda water
- 1 cup ice (optional, if blender is not powerful enough)
- Extra berries for garnish
- Mint sprigs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prep ingredients: Measure out lemon juice, open wine, and have simple syrup ready.
- Combine in blender: Add frozen berries, red wine, lemon juice, simple syrup, and orange liqueur to a high-speed blender. Do not overfill; blend in batches if necessary.
- Blend until smooth: Pulse on low, then increase to high. Blend for 2-3 minutes until the texture resembles soft-serve ice cream. Add a splash of soda water or wine if too thick, or more berries if too thin.
- Taste and adjust: Taste the mixture. Add more lemon juice if too sweet, more syrup if too tart, or more wine/soda if too strong.
- Serve and garnish: Pour the slushie into chilled glasses. Top with a splash of soda water for fizz. Garnish with fresh berries and mint. Serve immediately.
Notes
[‘Use frozen berries instead of fresh to avoid watering down the drink with ice.’, ‘Blend in batches if making a large quantity to ensure a smooth texture.’, ‘Add soda water after pouring, not during blending, to preserve carbonation.’, ‘Chill glasses in the freezer for 15 minutes before serving for a colder drink.’, ‘For a non-alcoholic version, substitute wine with red grape juice and cranberry juice, and omit orange liqueur.’, ‘Store blended slushie in the fridge for up to 2 hours; do not freeze the blended mixture.’]
