Cozy Fall Pumpkin Chai Latte: Kid-Friendly Spiced Drink

  • Author: Miranda
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Description

A warm, caffeine-free pumpkin chai latte that is perfect for kids and adults alike. This creamy, spiced drink turns kitchen time into a fun, sensory activity using simple pantry staples.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (120g) 100% pure pumpkin puree
  • 2 cups (480ml) milk (whole, oat, almond, or coconut)
  • 2 teaspoons chai spice blend (or 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/4 tsp cardamom, pinch of cloves)
  • 23 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Gather spices and have children measure cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves into a small bowl.
  2. Pour milk into a small saucepan and warm over medium-low heat until small bubbles form around the edges (approx. 160°F/70°C), stirring occasionally. Do not boil.
  3. In a separate small bowl, whisk pumpkin puree, half of the sweetener (1.5 tbsp), and all spices until a smooth paste forms.
  4. Reduce heat to low. Slowly pour the pumpkin-spice paste into the warm milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
  5. Whisk for 2-3 minutes until fully incorporated and hot. Do not let it boil.
  6. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract and remaining sweetener to taste.
  7. Pour into mugs. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure you use 100% pure pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling. Whisking is crucial to prevent the dense pumpkin from sinking. For toddlers, reduce spice amounts significantly. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat gently; do not freeze.
