Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet: 10-Min Gooey Dessert

  • Author: Miranda
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A warm, gooey, molten chocolate chip cookie baked in a single skillet. This easy dessert requires zero fancy equipment, takes only 10 minutes of active prep time, and serves a crowd with customizable mix-ins.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (200g) packed light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Sea salt flakes, for sprinkling on top
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 10-inch cast-iron skillet with butter or cooking spray if not well-seasoned.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Beat with an electric mixer on medium-high speed for 2-3 minutes until light, fluffy, and pale in color.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips with a spatula. Optionally, save a handful of chips to sprinkle on top later.
  6. Transfer dough to the prepared skillet. Press down evenly to reach the edges. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top if desired.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes. The edges should be golden brown and slightly crispy, while the center remains soft and slightly underbaked.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool in the skillet for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  9. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or eat straight from the pan.

Notes

Ensure butter is softened but not melted. Do not overmix the dough to avoid tough cookies. The center should look slightly underbaked as it continues to cook on the hot skillet after removal. For gluten-free, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. For dairy-free, use dairy-free butter and chocolate chips.
